Was an evening where music and dance were celebrated with much enthusiasm as the connoisseurs of the performing arts industry gathered at the Music Academy to release the unique CD album titled EKAM by Kalamandir. The album was released as a part of the 75th birth anniversary celebrations of Mr. Vishwanathan, founder, Kalamandir.
While Mr. Ramadorai, Vice Chairman, TCS, released the album, Mr. N. Murali, Predient, Music Academy, Senior Managing Director, The Hindu, received the first copy. The album comprises of six songs, composed by Sri Muthuswamy Dikshithar and sung in favour of the five elements of nature. The kritis in the album will resound in the voices of Sudha Ragunathan, Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Vijay Shiva, O.S. Thyagarajan, Bombay Jayashree and Nithyashri.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. N. Murali said Vishwanathan or Vichu as he was fondly known, filled up the void and gave new opportunities to young music enthusiasts. He was the only industrialist to provide jobs to young and aspiring musicians in his company like under a sports quota. Mr. Ramadorai, who was the chief guest of the occasion, said that the theme Ekam was very apt and Vishwanathan’s children were carrying his dream very well.
While the evening started with the bharathanatyam invocation by noted dancer C.V. Chandrashekar and disciples, who performed for the Pancha Bootha Upacharam, flute maestro Shashank gave the perfect ending to the musical evening with his performance.
The album is not for sale at music stores, so do pick up a copy of the album at the Kalamandir office in Adyar.
