The hot and happening Lekha Washington, the veejay-turned-actress, is hoping against hope that her film ‘Va Quarter Cutting’ which is releasing tomorrow on the eve of Deepavali, gives her the much-needed break in Kollywood. The petite Lekha played Vinay’s sister in ‘Jeyamkondan’ and then moved to Bollywood to try her luck.
She is now back in Kollywood opposite ‘Mirchi’ Siva in the film, touted as a hilarious comedy. She was reportedly signed up by Simbu to star in his ‘Kettavan’ but the project never really took off and only ended up frustrating Lekha, who was trying her best to land up heroine’s roles as she was getting more ‘sister acts’ after playing the role in ‘Jeyamkondan’.
Her Bollywood career started with ‘Peter Gaya Kaam Se’, a film which is said to have featured her in glamourous attires including the bikini act. Despite that, she wasn’t exactly flooded with Hindi film offers and she is now back in Kollywood with the Deepavali release trying to establish herself as one of the frontline heroines.
She is very confident that the film would do very well. She has said, “On the very first day of the shooting of the film itself, I was confident that the film would become super-hit. The director duo of Pushkar and Gayatri has been working extremely hard and sincerely.
“I haven’t performed the typical around-the-trees dance but have danced a bit. Actually speaking, dance is not my forte but I have done a decent enough job of it, I can assure you. The script is an easy-going and jolly one and would be to the liking of the fans,” says Lekha, whose smile can ‘kill’!
Lekha looks forward with optimism about her upcoming Hindi film titled ‘Power’, directed by Rajkuma Santoshi, the director with a the Midas’ Touch. She is thrilled to bits to be starring along side the Big B (Amitabh Bachchan) in the film, as she plays his daughter. If the film does well, who knows, Lekha might overtake the likes of Asin and Trisha in Bollywood!
