Don’t Miss It: Hands of India Exhibition in Chennai

This festive season, Chennaiites have an extra reason to go and shop – the Hands Of India exhibition, which opens on the 12th Oct at CP Art Centre at Alwarpet. There have been lots of exhibitions before; there will be more to come, but the sisters who run the outfit claim that theirs is a unique experience – both in the range and quality of products and their fair price.

HandsOfIndia is a Delhi based organization, whose stated mission is to create a brand of handicrafts from all over India, which is known for its quality and affordability. Started by two sisters, who guided by their passion for handicrafts and handlooms, quit their professional careers in Software and Indian Air Force, it aims to bring the focus back on the craft and the crafts-people, improve quality standards and develop products which gel with the current fast paced and contemporary life-style.

The company has so far retailed through its website, and done exhibitions abroad and is now conducting its first exhibition in the country in Chennai. Why Chennai? As they say, it’s the most sophisticated handloom and handicraft market in the country, and if we could delight the customer here, we can do it in any part of the country.

The exhibition is being inaugurated on the 12th by Revathy, the celebrated national-award winning actor and director. It will feature a host of products, the showcase being hand-embroidery from all over the country – on sarees, dupattas and salwar suits – made from the best handloom available - kota, mangalgiri, venkatgiri, block print. Apart from this there would be rock pottery, handwoven- block printed rugs, home furnishings, river grass mats, table linen, unique toys, flowers and wall-hangings made from ‘shola-peeth’ - the bark of the cork tree, glass bangles and silver jewellery. All debit/credit cards are accepted.
