If there is something that has grown on to Chennai with time, it’s the concept of malls. For an average Chennaiite, malls take a lion’s share of attention when it comes to having fun and entertainment under one roof. Giving you another reason to hang out at the Ampa Skywalk Mall in Aminjikarai are the two new restaurants (Feugo and Spice Mill) and a coffee shop (Attic) that has thrown open its doors for service recently.

It is easy to spot Fuego in the crowded food court of the mall. Fuego is a fusion restaurant where grills rule the roost. The restaurant boasts of an open kitchen so you can take a peek at your dish while it gets grilled. The chef’s recommendation at Feugo is the mushroom milagapodi, blackened cat fish and stuffed chicken. For the adventurous, there is octopus and emu meat that you can dig into!

Spice Mill, their other restaurant, caters to the authentic south Indian taste buds. While at Spice Mill, forget the usual dosas and idlis, instead munch on some Kane Rava fry or Kothimera Karam Kodi. The restaurant is done up elegantly and is perfect for a family lunch on a lazy afternoon. Sink into a comfortable chair and savour some of the select gourmet dishes from the four Southern states at the Spice Mill.

For the fervent coffee lover, there is Attic, right above the PVR cinemas where one can hit for some coffee and a quick bite. There is also a live counter where they promise to whip up some interesting sea food. The buffet section at the coffee place is worth a mention as it can help you fill your stomach without burning a hole in your pocket. The buffet serves both veg and non veg dishes at Rs. 234/- nett.

For people who are visiting Chennai, especially on business trips, here is a fun way to stay in the city. Stargate, an initiative by Automatrix Hotels Pvt Ltd, (the people behind the restaurants and Attic) has also opened a ‘mall hotel’ (technically, a hotel in a mall) at Ampa Skywalk. With this, Chennai seems to be truly turning into a tourist’s paradise. The added attraction though is the bar, which is aptly named ‘Altitude’ that shall be open soon.

The Skywalk Hotel is situated on the fifth floor of the mall and shall serve as a business class hotel. Taking us on a tour of the place, Mr. Joshva Christopher, Operations Manager, Automatrix, says, “We are currently testing the theme and hopefully we would soon spread to other malls.” The 20 room hotel is complete with Wi-fi and dry cleaning and hair drier facility on request. A night at the hotel would cost you around Rs.3000 for a single bed. A double bed would cost Rs. 1000 extra.
