Chennai, quite famous for its numerous lifestyle magazines, has now taken a step forward, this time for all the foodies here. Malli - Chennai’s first food magazine was launched in the city, recently. Kavitha Chesetty, founder of the popular food portal www.malli.in, is the woman behind the mag. Unveiled by Karti Chidambaram, the first copy was received Hotelier Nina Reddy.
Malli aims to make people recollect the good old experience of cooking and eating well. “A lot of thought has gone in the making of MALLI. When one works with/around food, it leads to a totally different relationship. Good food brings people together and increases bonding between them”, says Kavita Chesetty who has an undying passion for food and remarkable experience in the hospitality industry and catering business.
When asked about what made her start a food magazine, she joyously replied that the astonishing response received for Malli Bytes (A four page newspaper which served as a food guide), encouraged her to go for something bigger and better. The magazine, which is a bi-monthly, is a unique blend of the very best in food and contains inputs from some of the best culinary minds across the world.
The design and photography of the magazine are taken care by Sharad Haksar and his agency 1pointsize. Dedicated to all things food, Malli’s inspiration comes from the fragrant flower malli poo (Jasmine) and also kotha malli (coriander); both symbolic to Chennai.
Since the magazine was launched during the Christmas season, the first issue is a Christmas special. The introductory issues will be complimentary copies and made available at leading lifestyle and gourmet stores in the city.
